On an invitation extended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces – First Deputy Minister of the Defence of the Russian Federation, General of the Army V. Gerasimov, Chief of the Defence Staff of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Air Chief Marshal K.A. Gunatilleke visited the Russian Federation from 05th to 09th October 2015 to participate in the Conference on Interaction of Defence Agencies on Security in Afghanistan and Central Asia in the New Environment.

During the visit the CDS of Sri Lanka also had bilateral negotiations with the officials of the Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation, JSC “Rosoboronexport” and JSC “Irkut” Corporation in the areas of mutual interest.
He also paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Moscow.
