The Government of Sri Lanka has declared April 23, 2019 as the "National Day of Mourning" to remember and respect the victims of the bombings that took place in Sri Lanka on April 23. According to the latest data, the explosions took lives of more than 290 people, and more than 500 were injured.

In this connection, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow flew the National Flag at half-mast and observed 3 minutes of silence. While addressing the staff of the Mission, H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, condemned the bombings that had claimed lives of hundreds of civilians and underscored that the fight against terrorism concerned not only Sri Lanka, but the global community on the whole. H. E. the Ambassador also pointed out the importance of intensive and effective operation of the Mission in this tragic time, as the Russian Federation has years of experience of fighting terrorism; hence, it is important for the Embassy to ensure sharing of the best practices in prevention of any further attacks on the nation.
