In the framework of cultural collaboration between Sri Lanka and Russia, Museum and Nature Reserve Tsaritsyno in Moscow jointly with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow agreed to hold a Night of Sri Lankan culture in 2021, during the summer.

This was decided at a meeting held on 23 October 2020 between H. E. the Ambassador, Prof MD Lamawansa, and Director General of the Tsaritsyno Palace, Ms. Elizaveta Fokina. The planned event will become a part of the Embassy Nights program organized by the Museum. Embassy nights are held to revive the old tradition of similar events, which dates back to 18th century, when such events were hosted by the foreign Ambassadors to the Russian Tsars and the high society. Next year will be the first time that Sri Lanka will participate in the embassy nights program. The event which will have multiple Sri Lankan cultural items will introduce the Russian public to Sri Lankan traditional dances, songs and cuisine.
The event will be held in one of the halls of the magnificent Tsaritsyno palace built in the 18th century by the order of the Russian Empress Catherine the Great. The grand event will be attended by 200 special invitees and up to 500 000 online viewers.
During the meeting, Prof. M. D. Lamawansa noted that "The Embassy in Moscow considers cultural relations to be one of the main aspects of relations between the two countries, as people-to-people contacts largely influence all others, including trade, tourism, tea and etc."
Before the official part of the meeting, the Embassy delegation was taken round to examine the marvelous halls of the palace, which is currently being used as a museum and a concert hall.
