Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Business Forum entitled SCO: next steps towards sustainable economic development, a 3-day online conference, is being held from 3rd to 6th November. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Prof. M.D. Lamawansa was one of the main speakers.
In the framework of a Panel Session dedicated to SCO SMEs: new approaches for support and development, Ambassador Prof. M.D. Lamawansa delivered the first speech on Post Covid-19 recovery of MSME sector of Sri Lanka, its current status and the future directions.
The SCO Business Forum is a key platform for discussing most important issues of business cooperation in the SCO space, organized by the SCO Business Council. This year due to pandemic, the Conference was held in an on-line format and brought together speakers from more than a dozen of countries to exchange opinions on a wide range of pressing issues targeted at developing trade and economic cooperation and enhancing interaction of business communities of SCO countries.
Ambassador Prof. M.D. Lamawansa urged the participants of the conference and the SCO Business Council to engage in coordinated efforts to create and disperse new knowledge on the effects on MSME, what might happen in the near future, suggesting measures to be taken based on sound principles, monitoring the outcome of the measures taken. The Ambassador stressed the need to establish the SCO resource center dedicated for the purpose of strengthening the MSME sector, and called economically sound SCO countries to provide assistance to member countries in need.
