The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation together with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Saint-Petersburg arranged an awareness program for Russian business community on Investment, trade and tourism opportunities in Sri Lanka during the Round Table on cooperation conducted online format on 3 December 2020. A wide range of exclusive products inherent for Sri Lanka and advantages of investments were presented during this session by the Export development Board and Board of Investments of Sri Lanka.
During the official session, the Ambassador and the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg Mr. Abubakarov echoed that this opportunity was created during the first visit of the Ambassador to Saint Petersburg in June 2020, which was the first ever visit of the Ambassador outside Moscow.
During the discussion, Interest for cooperation with Sri Lanka was well highlighted by the Russian side covering different spheres. It was proposed by the Saint-Petersburg branch of the Russia-Sri Lanka Friendship Society, to organize exhibitions dedicated to tourism in the city to promote Sri Lanka. Further, the Society has planned trade fairs for Sri Lankan exporters in the international tea center in Saint-Petersburg and an exhibition on Sri Lankan Culture. The center for cultural program "Culture and peace" expressed its willingness to render its supports to collaborate with Sri Lanka in organizing events related to culture.
Both parties agreed for further cooperation through organized meetings, dedicated to specific sectors, B2B sessions and to work closely in order to strengthen two-way cooperation for mutual benefits.
