The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia organized an introductory meeting between the University of Peradeniya and the Russian State Agrarian University.
Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, Prof. Upul Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya and Prof. Vladimir Trukhachev, Rector of the Russian State Agrarian University (former Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy), as well as their staff, including Vice Rectors and Deans of the University and the Embassy representatives, met online on 04 December 2020 to discuss establishing links between the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Peradeniya and the Russian State Agrarian University.
The two institutions have multiple similarities: they both are the oldest agriculture-related Universities in the respective countries, both are largely interested not only in education but also in science and research. After a productive discussion, the parties determined the spheres of mutual interest and agreed to develop a Memorandum of Understanding and establish strong cooperation links.
Both parties highlighted that their purposes are not only to develop educational and scientific cooperation but also to strengthen friendly ties between the two countries, improve their economic potential, and build a better future in the sphere of agriculture.
This meeting became yet another milestone of the Embassy in the course of its efforts to establish direct links in the sphere of education and science between Sri Lankan and Russian Universities.
