21 January 2021, Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia paid a visit to the Rudomino All Russia State Library for Foreign Literature and met with its Acting Director General Mr. Pavel Kuzmin, Mr. Migel Palaсio, Deputy Director General for Interregional and International cooperation and Ms. Olga Smirnova, Head of the Center for Coordination and Support of International Activities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The sides discussed projects they can potentially implement jointly, such as organization of Sinhala language books exhibitions, online and offline lectures of Sri Lankan authors, arrangement of a translation competition, developing special programmes, etc.
Prof. M. D. Lamawansa congratulated the Rudomino Library with its 100 years anniversary and pledged to establish strong association with the library for the benefits of bilateral cooperation. Mr. Pavel Kuzmin, in his turn, noted that literature is the best sphere to unite peoples without borders and to create mutual understanding. The sides highlighted, that it is important to develop cultural cooperation despite the pandemic and implement online projects to achieve long-term success.
The Rudomino All Russia State Library for Foreign Literature with the stock more than 4 mln documents, was established at the end of 1921 and opened its doors for readers in April 1922, and ever since then it has performed the double function: that of a public library rendering its users the full set of traditional library services and building up its collections in the humanities, arts and literature – and that of a sort of center for obtaining all kind of information on foreign countries, of a meeting-place, or a forum, where different cultures of the world come together and exchange their spiritual, human and scientific values. The Library currently possesses about 800 books related to Sri Lanka and the Embassy is determined to increase their number.

Herath, First Secretary for Culture and Education; Ms. Olessya Romanova, Personal Assistant of H. E. the Ambassador and Ms. Julia Builova, Interpreter.
