04 February 2021, in line with celebration of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka, the Embassy held a Cultural programme dedicated to the joyful event.

 

 

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year, the event went live due to restricted in person participation. At the invitation of the Embassy, Sri Lankan students studying in the Universities of Russia and Belarus representing from the different regions participated at the celebration and contributed to the cultural part of the event by their mesmerizing performances. The programme included colourful dances, patriotic songs and greetings.
A beautiful welcome dance was performed by the students from the Moscow Aviation Institute.
Students from People's Friendship University performed the following song which demonstrates the importance of the unity of the people of our mother land;
සැවොම එක් වෙමු
එක්ව නැගිටිමු
මහා බලයක් විහිදුවාලමු
අපේ රට හෙට එකම එක සුරපුරයක්...
"May our country be blessed with peace and prosperity"; themed dance was performed by the Sri Lankan students representing the Kursk State Medical University in Russia.
Great people who fought for the freedom of the motherland can never be forgotten. Remembering the Sri Lankan national and war heroes who have laid their lives for the sake of our motherland, the students of the Tver State Medical University sang the popular Sinhala patriotic song;
හෙළ ජාතික අභිමානේ
වැඩු විරුවන් සේ පොරණේ
දිනු මවුබිම සවු සිරියෙන් සරසවු
පිබිදෙවු පිබිදෙවු සැරසෙවු.

One of remarkable things of this year national day celebration is, the Embassy was able to connect all Sri Lankans not only from Russia but also from all the other accredited countries; Belarus, Armenia, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
A dance performed by students of the Grodno State Medical University in Belarus based on the historical narration of the "Dhantha Dhaathuva", the sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. And the Angampora, an indigenous type of martial art which used by the ancient war heroes of the country to rebel against the foreign empire and to bring peace to Sri Lanka also performed at the event.
Students of the Vitebsk State Medical University in Belarus performed a dance that depicted Vijaya – Kuweni story, which is considered as an important milestone in the 2500 years old history of our island nation.

"Be fortunate to be born again in our mother land" themed song was sung by the Gomel State Medical University students along with an outstanding dancing performance.
Students who are studying in St. Petersburg also sent their greetings for the celebration of the 73rd National Independence Day.
One of the major achievements of the Embassy during the last year was the commencement of the inaugural online Sinhala language course for the Russian Nationals in collaboration with the Ruhuna University in Sri Lanka. Two students of the course also shared their joy and happiness on the eve of the Sri Lanka's Independence Day of Sri Lanka.
The Embassy would like to extend its special gratitude to all the Sri Lankan community in Russia, Belarus and other accredited countries for their utmost support and creative representation.
