H.E. Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Moldova and an Embassy delegation comprised of Mr. Mohamed Anas, DHM, Minister Counsellor, Dr Thamaramala Kannangara, spouse of H.E. the Ambassador, and Ms. Olessya Romanova, PA to Ambassador paid their first visit to the Republic of Moldova.

In the framework of the visit the Ambassador had a series of meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration with the State Secretary Mr. Dimitru Socolan, Head of State Diplomatic Protocol Mr. Mihail Barbulat and Director of the Division for Asia, Africa and Middle East and the Pacific Dr. Viktor Nikolae.
During the meetings, the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between Moldova and Sri Lanka, interaction between the two states in the international organizations. The Ambassador and the Moldova officials also focused on intensification of the existing bilateral mechanisms of cooperation in the spheres of trade, economy and tourism. The matters related to appointment of Hon. Consul were also discussed.
In addition to the meetings held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the delegation conducted meetings with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova and the Agency for Tourism and Investment. A presentation was delivered trade, investment and tourism opportunities of Sri Lanka.
Ambassador spoke about the priority areas including IT, agriculture and Ceylon tea to extend cooperation and emphasized the need for establishing links between the relevant institutions in the two countries.
