The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, represented by CEO, Mr. Manjula de Silva, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Armenia, represented by the Executive Director, Mr. Andranik Aleksanyan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) virtually on Friday, April 30, 2021. Mr. Mohamed Anas, Charged d affairs of the embassy witnessed the event.

This historical event was preceded by the official visit of H.E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Professor M.D. Lamawansa, to the Republic of Armenia, where he held a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which marked the beginning of the development and strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of trade and investment between the countries.
A framework for joint collaboration between the Chambers has been created, which would serve to fulfill the common objectives in representing the interest of their respective business communities and realizing the economic benefits for the countries. The two organizations will work together on exchanging market information regularly, facilitating business opportunities and trade delegations for promoting the interests of the companies in of both countries. Additionally, support will be offered to members of each Chamber when visiting each other's country for business purposes and assistance to business representatives from the two countries in engaging in business and investment activities. The two Chambers will work on co-organizing meetings, seminars, trade exhibitions, workshops and conferences in order to promote investment, trade, industrial cooperation, technology transfer, joint ventures and generally business and economic cooperation. They will also offer mutual assistance to identify suitable partners interested in investment, business and technical collaboration in relation to the implementation of business projects in each of the countries.
Further representatives of both Chambers expressed their gratitude to the Embassy for the initiative and their willingness to develop the bilateral relations. As the first step under the MOU, it has been agreed to conduct a webinar to identify the sectors mostly attractive for both parties followed by the B2B meetings on an early date.
The event has opened a new avenue for prospective cooperation between the enterprises of the Republic of Armenia and Sri Lanka.
