The Embassy conducted Certificates Awarding Ceremony for the teachers of the Online Sinhala Course, which was held in the period from October 2020 to February 2021 for Russian-speaking students.

The unprecedented initiative of the Embassy to hold a free Course of Sinhala language for the Russian-speaking public caused immediate interest among the Russian public and more than 150 students joined the course initially, with 43 students successfully completing the Module 01.
The course was held by the University of Ruhuna, with support of the Embassy and active participation of coordinators and Russian-speaking Sri Lankan teachers, who participated in the programme voluntarily.
During the Ceremony, the following Russian-speaking teachers, who worked strenuously to make this programme a success, as well as Consultants and Coordinators, received Certificates of Appreciation and special mementoes from the Embassy:

Mr. Rupasiri Perera – Main Co-teacher;
Ven. Sooriyawewa Gnanadassi Thero – Co-teacher;
Mr. Malrenu Kasthurirathna – Co-teacher;

Ms. Manuli Jayasinghe – Co-teacher;

In his address to the gathering Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, highlighted the exceptional role of the language in cooperation of the countries and its contribution to all the basic bilateral relations, such as trade, tourism, education, culture and others.
The Embassy would also like to avail itself of this opportunity to extend its gratitude for the support of Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Dr. Darshana Liyanage, Head of the Department of Sinhala language, Main Coordinator of the Course, and Ms. Lokeshwari Karunarathna, Main Lecturer of the Module 01. Currently the University of Ruhuna is in the process of preparing for the Module 02.
