In the framework of the Embassy initiative to establish strong links between Sri Lankan and Russian schools, the Embassy conducted a follow-up meeting between the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka, Governor of the Sabaragamuwa, Governor of the Central Province, Director of Moscow School No. 1250 and their staff.

The meeting was conducted by Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Moscow, who appreciated the efforts of all sides to bring the cultures of Sri Lanka and Russia closer to each other through student-to-student, teacher-to-teacher and language cooperation.
Hon. Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka and Hon. Lalith Gamage, Governor of the Central Province of Sri Lanka, in their turn, assured that they would provide all the necessary legal and administrative support to this project, which was once again proven by the fact that both Heads of the Provinces found time to participate in this meeting.
The Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka was represented by the Ms. B.M.Weerasuriya, Director, Department of English and Foreign Languages. Ms. Weerasuriya highlighted the importance of introducing new languages to the syllabus of Sri Lankan schools and also pledged to provide the required support to the initiative from the Ministry side.
Mr. Vasily Murzak, Director of Moscow School No. 1250, during his speech extended gratitude to H. E. the Ambassador and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow for organizing a lantern-making workshop, which was held for the pupils of the school as a part of Vesak celebrations, and expressed readiness to formalize the collaboration with a profound document.
Two students from boys' and girls' schools of the Central Province of Sri Lanka, which were selected to participate in the programme, also made short and touching speeches on their attitude to Russian language and desire to learn more about the Russian culture.
As a result of the meeting, the sides agreed that the members of the working group from all parties: Ms. B. M. Weerasuriya (Director, Department of English and Foreign Languages), Ms. Nirosha K. Herath (First Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia), Ms. Chamari Andarage (Director of Education; English, Foreign Languages & E Learning, Department of Education, Kandy), Mrs. Amali Wickramasinghe (Provincial Coordinator of English and Foreign Languages, Sabaragamuwa Province ) and Ms. Elena Sharkadi (Vice Director of the Moscow School No. 1250) – will join their efforts to synchronize the roadmaps created by all parties and will follow up on the efforts to sign MoU to formalize the relations and continue them for the decades to come.
