In the course of the official visit of H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, together with the delegation headed by Hon. Sisira Jayakody, State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurvedic Hospitals Development and Community Health, participated in the ceremonial opening of the Office of the Hony. Consul of Sri Lanka in Saint Petersburg.

Mr. Vagram Zakharyan, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Saint Petersburg, initiated opening the office to promote Sri Lankan interests in the sphere of tourism, trade, tea, culture and education in the Northwestern Federal District of the Russian Federation, as well as to provide assistance to the citizens of Sri Lanka residing in the region.
The Ceremony was attended by the high officials of the City Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of business and was followed by ceremonial lunch on behalf of the Governor of St. Petersburg.
Despite being officially appointed earlier this year, Mr. Vagram Zakharyan has provided tremendous support during the visits of high-level Sri Lankan delegations to St. Petersburg and is full of determination to bring the Sri Lanka – Russia relations in the Northwestern Federal District of the Russian Federation to a new level.
