The Embassy in the Russian Federation has facilitated a meeting with the representatives of the Moscow Association of Entrepreneurs (MAE) on 23rd of March 2022.

 The Moscow Association of Entrepreneurs is the oldest interregional public organization of business leaders and businessmen in Russia, founded in 1989. Entrepreneurs from 51 regions of Russia and foreign countries are represented in more than 50 committees of the Association. Branches and representative offices of the Association work not only in Russian regions and CIS countries, but also in Africa (Morocco), Asia (China, Vietnam, Mongolia, Cambodia), America (Cuba; USA: Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Dalaver) and others.

 The Association cooperates with the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, the Governments of the Russian Federation, Moscow and the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, committees of the State Duma and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

 

The meeting was chaired by H. E. the Ambassador, prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, expressing willingness to supply a wide range of products produced in Sri Lanka to cover the shortage in the Russian market in such sectors as apparel and textile, processed food, rubber, coconut products, fishery, cosmetics and others. As well the Embassy was represented by Minister Counsellor, Mr. Chamila Jayarathna, and Ms. Anna Makarovskaya, Trade and Tourism Department officer.

 

During the meeting the questions of participation of entrepreneurs of both countries in the fierce competition in the world market and the sharp shortage of a number of vital goods and services in the Russian market were discussed. Further the presentation was made on the export potential of Sri Lanka.

 

In turn, representatives of the MAE expressed high interest in importation of a number of goods from Sri Lanka due to the current situation of shortage in the Russian market, for what it was proposed to sign MOU enabling further collaboration.

 

Besides, the parties have agreed to arrange sector wise B2B meetings and business delegation to Sri Lanka facilitating establishment of the links between the business representatives of both countries. 

Representatives of the MAE thanked the staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka for such a warm and friendly welcome and agreed to hold a joint event in the near future: “The Day of Opening the Doors of the Republic of Sri Lanka”
