24 – 27 March 2022 Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, made an official visit to Vologda region at the invitation of the Governor H.E. Mr. Oleg Kuvshinnikov  in order to explore its commercial, investment, agricultural and cultural potential and seek opportunities for cooperation.

In the course of the visit, Mr. Oleg Kuvshinnikov, the Governor of the region introduced Prof. Liyanage to regional products that may be of interest to Sri Lanka, including mineral fertilizers, metal, dairy farming, Textile, natural wood materials, confectionery, semi-finished forest products, ice cream, etc. 

Apart from Vologda, H. E. the Ambassador visited the cities of Cherepovets, Vytegra and Sheksna and held discussions with the cities’ Administration. At the invitation of the Government Ambassador visited a number of enterprises such as PhosAgro fertilizer-producing company, Vologda Textile Factory, AtAg confectionery production, Vologda Ice Cream LLC, Vologda Regional Balneological Hospital and Educational Institution under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia etc. The sides agreed to use the common opportunities for further development of long-term cooperation and strong business relations between Sri Lanka and the region, putting special emphasis to trade, economic and tourism cooperation.
