On 8th June H.E. the Ambassador, Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage had a discussion with the Russian National Investment Industrial Bank exploring the possibility of devising a correspondent relationship with the People's Bank of Sri Lanka.

The said alliance between two banks will pave the way for transferring funds to both the ends, enabling the Russian tourists travelling to Sri Lanka to remit their funds seamlessly and Sri Lankan students to receive funds from Sri Lanka conveniently.
Under this banking cooperation the parties also discussed the avenues of MIR card acceptance for payments in Sri Lanka, through the proposed correspondent relationship.
We are optimistic that this relationship will be mutually beneficial to both banking Institutions and individuals from both countries travelling to each other's territories.
The above meeting was followed by an online discussion between the People's bank of Sri Lanka and Russian National Investment Industrial bank in order to initiate the collaboration at the operational level and way forward for technical clarifications.
