On 10 June 2022, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, conducted an introductory meeting between the University of Vavuniya and the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, Belarus.

This meeting was arranged based on the results of the visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka, to Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus. The Universities were represented by Dr. T. Mangaleshwaran, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Prof. Irina Kiturko, Rector of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, and their staff.
In the course of the meeting, the sides shared presentations about their Universities and held a discussion on cooperation in such directions as establishment of joint educational programmes, postgraduate degrees, academic exchange, joint research, etc. To formalize cooperation, the sides will begin with negotiating the text of the Memorandum of Understanding. The Embassy will provide all the necessary assistance to communication of the two Universities at the primary stages.
