Sri Lankan Ambassador H.E. Prof. Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage continues to work closely with Russian Association of International Cooperation and Russia-Sri Lanka Friendship Society in particular in order to strengthen longstanding friendship ties between Sri Lanka and Russia and to enhance cooperation in a wide range of spheres.
In August, H.E. Prof. Liyanage paid working visits to Russia-Sri Lanka Friendship Society (both Moscow and St. Petersburg branches). On August 15, in Moscow the guests were received by Mr. Vladimir Polozkov, General Secretary, Russian Association of International Cooperation and his Deputies Ms. Tatyana Mishukovskaya and Ms. Elizaveta Stupanskaya. The meeting took place in the office of the Russian Association for International Cooperation (RAIC) at the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, the parties developed a roadmap to expand collaboration of Sri Lanka and regions of Russia in trade, economic, educational, cultural and humanitarian fields. H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage and Mr. Polozkov emphasized the importance of joint efforts targeted at strengthening the interaction between the countries in different areas and assured to extend fullest support to each other.

On August 19, 2022 H.E. the Ambassador Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage visited St. Petersburg Chapter of Russia – Sri Lanka Friendship Society. Apart from Mr. Alexander Chudok, President of Russia – Sri Lanka Friendship Society, St. Petersburg Branch, and Ms. Anna Boikova, Chairman of Board, Russia-Sri Lanka Friendship Society in St. Petersburg, the meeting was also attended by Board members including high-level officers from St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee, Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography named after Peter the Great (Kunstkamera), St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg Association for International Cooperation, and travel companies attended the meeting.
The Ambassador and meeting participants had a substantial discussion on various topics including tea promotion, prospects for tourism development between the countries with direct regular and charter flights, payment options for business and educational opportunities.
