Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, visited on 15 September 2022 the Grodno State Medical University (GSMU). The University gives education to about 700 Sri Lankan students and is one of the major Belarus educational establishments.
Mr. I. G. Zhuk, Rector of the Grodno State Medical University, and his staff warmly greeted Her Excellency, while Sri Lankan students of the University prepared a colourful traditional performance to welcome the delegation. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage visited the training facilities of GSMU, held a discussion with Sri Lankan students and participated in a meeting with the Administration of the University on the possibilities of further development of relations and the terms of stay of Sri Lankan students in Belarus.
In the framework of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Grodno State Medical University and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, noted that the MoU has laid the first stone in the development of academic, educational and scientific links between the Sri Lankan and Belarus Universities.
