In the framework of her visit to Belarus, Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, visited the Gomel State Medical University (GSMU), where about 140 Sri Lankan students obtain their higher education.
Prof. I. O. Stoma, Rector of the GSMU, warmly greeted the Sri Lankan delegation, which also included Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. In the course of the meeting with the delegation, the sides discussed potential steps to improve the stay of Sri Lankan students in Belarus, to develop educational and scientific links between the two countries. The guests were also invited to see the facilities available for the students at the Gomel State Medical University at the Training Center for Practical and Simulation Training, as well as the University's clinical bases.
To lay the foundation of future cooperation the Heads of the Gomel State Medical University and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, which will facilitate partnership in the field of science, technology, education and innovation.
The delegation also met the Sri Lankan students of the Belarus University, who prepared some bright performances for the visit and held a discussion with H. E. the Ambassador with regard to the conditions of their stay, studies and interaction with the University administration.
