On October 07, 2022, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage had meeting with the Deputy Head of Federal Air Transport Agency of the Russian Federation H.E. Vladimir Poteshkin. Deputy Head of FATA Mr. Georgy Bakharev, Head of the Department for transportation regulation and international cooperation of FATA Mr. Lev Kostin, Ambassador of Russia to Sri Lanka H.E. Levan Jagaryan and the Russian MFA representatives were also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the resumption of Moscow – Colombo direct flights were confirmed. Starting October 09, 2022 Aeroflot will operate two flights per week on Thursdays and Sundays.
In addition to the regular flights operated by Aeroflot, Azur Air has got permission to perform 4 charter flights per week starting early November this year.
The matter of resumption of SriLankan Airlines operation, the national carrier of Sri Lanka, as well as the possibility of direct connection from other Russian cities with population over 1 mln. people, including St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, were also raised during the discussion.
