H.E. the Ambassador has attended the International Travel Fair "Expotravel – 2022" in Ural Region on 30th September 2022. The importance of participation in this event can hardly be overestimated, since the Ural region is a strategically important region in terms of bilateral cooperation. Due to its location on the border of the European and Asian parts of Russia, it opens the door to a large part of the country beyond the Ural Mountains.

As a guest of honor, prof. Janitha A. Liyanage took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition along with the Deputy Minister of International Relations of the region and the President of Tourism Association of Ural. Taking the opportunity H.E. introduced a newly appointed Hon. Consul of Sri Lanka in Yekaterinburg, deputy of regional parliament, Mr. V.V. Smirnov.
Further H.E. delivered a speech on the plenary session promoting Sri Lanka and restoring its image as a totally safe destination and conducted a meeting with tour operators of the region delivering comprehensive presentation on Sri Lanka tourism.
In the framework of her visit, H.E. conducted a fruitful meeting with the Deputy Governor of Sverdlovsk Region and discussed ways of enhancing cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Ural region.
Another important meeting was conducted with the Chairperson of the Legal Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region, where questions of development of relations in scientific and educational sphere were brought up along with trade and economic issues of collaboration.
During the visit, H.E. was invited to the Ural Federal University to discuss cooperation with a Sri Lankan University and MOU was proposed to be signed.
