The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, organized on 17 October 2022 an introductory online meeting between the Polessky State University, Republic of Belarus, and University of Kelaniya. The meeting was organized as a result of the visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka, to Minsk and the discussions held in the Ministry of Education of the Republic.

At the meeting, the sides were represented by Prof. Olga Zolotareva, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Polessky State University, Prof. Neelakshi Premawardhana, Director for International Affairs of the University of Kelaniya, and their staff. The sides highlighted the similarities shared between the two Universities in their educational programmes, as well as сommon approach to the development of international cooperation.
In the result of the discussion the Belarusian and Sri Lankan Universities, the sides reconfirmed their willingness to establish strong link via formulating a roadmap, arranging mutual participation in educational and cultural events, establishing students and academic exchange and potential opening of a joint educational programme.
