The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation organized on 20 October 2022 a meeting between the autonomous non-profit organization of higher education Innopolis University, the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka and the Open University of Sri Lanka.

The three Universities were represented by Mr. Aleksander Tormasov. Rector of the Innopolis University, Prof P M C Thilakarathne, Vice Chancellor of the Open University, Prof. A. Rameez, Vice Chancellor of the South Eastern University and their staff. The gathering was also graced by Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia.
In the course of the meeting, the Universities made presentations, came up with proposals for cooperation and mainly concentrated on interaction in the fields of digital technology, artificial intelligence, cyber security, geographic information system, etc. The sides showed interest to exchanges of best practices, arranging student and academic staff mobility programmes, conducting joint research and establishing joint master programmes. The Universities agreed to exchange proposals for cooperation and consider signing Memorandums of Cooperation to establish and promote academic, cultural and other types of collaboration.
The Innopolis University also showed strong interest to conducting joint research programmes with Sri Lankan industrial companies.
