In the framework of the efforts of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation to expand collaboration between Sri Lanka and Universities of CIS countries, a second meeting was organized between the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (YKSUG), Belarus, and Sri Lankan Universities. After participating in the first meeting with the University of Vavuniya in June, the two Universities are on the final stages of negotiating the text of the Memorandum of Understanding.

In the course of the second meeting, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM) and South-Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) expressed their willingness for cooperation with the Belarus counterparts. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, Prof. Irina Kiturko, Rector of the YKSUG, Prof. Ranjana W. Seneviratne, Vice Chancellor of the GWUIM, and Prof. A, Rameez, Vice Chancellor, of the SEUSL, as well as Vice Rectors, Deans and other staff of the Universities joined the meeting.
Each of the Universities displayed elaborate presentations of their campuses, educational and research potential, teaching programmes and areas of interest. The parties expressed their willingness to sign Memorandums of Understanding, establish academic mobility programmes, participate in joint conferences, make publications in each other's journals and organize online learning programmes for the students. Special attention was paid to such spheres of knowledge as medicine, economics, management and engineering. The sides will continue communication for mutual benefit of the two countries.
