In the first decade of November, 2022, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage brought a delegation from Moscow headed by a major Russian developer and investor, the Chair of the Board of Russia – Sri Lanka Friendship Society Mr. Petr Ryzhkov, and Secretary General of Russian Association for International Cooperation, Vice President of Russia – Sri Lanka Friendship Society Mr. Vladimir Polozkov.
Apart from high-level meetings with the Government authorities of Sri Lanka and business programme, the delegation implemented the people-to-people diplomacy projects to establish partnership links between Galle and Russian city of Vologda; between Kotte Sri Jayewardenepura and Kameshkovo, territory of advanced socio-economic development in Vladimir region.
During the visit, the online meetings between the Mayors of the sister-cities-to-be were conducted. Both sides expressed interest in establishing direct links between the cities, which will facilitate interaction in the sphere of trade and economic relations, culture, tourism, ecology and youth policy.
The Administrations of the cities agreed to exchange the delegations in order to explore trade and economic potential for mutually beneficial cooperation, to enhance better understanding of culture, traditions, and to contribute to the development of traditionally friendly Russian-Sri Lankan relationship.
