On October 13, 2022 the Sri Lankan delegation including Hon. Susil Premajayanth, Special representative of the President of Sri Lanka, Minister of Education, Hon. Nalin Fernando, Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security of Sri Lanka, and H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia were received by H.E. Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
The First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Mr. Pavel Sorokin, Newly appointed Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka H.E. Levan Jagarian, CEO of SUEK Siberian Coal Energy Company Mr. Maxim Basov, Deputy General Director (CFO), JSC Zarubezhneft Mr. Denis Maximov, were also present at the meeting.
The matters pertaining to fuel procurement and possibility of credit line for Sri Lanka to procure crude oil, coal and oil products from Russia were discussed.
To recollect, earlier this year H.E. the Ambassador Prof. Janitha Liyanage regularly met with the First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Mr. Pavel Sorokin and facilitated an on-line meeting held with Sri Lankan Minister of Energy Hon. Kanchana Wijesekera to identify the list of Russian major oil and gas producing companies, which products are matching Sri Lanka's specifics and requirements.
It was decided that the meeting at the Ministry of Finance of Russia would be conducted between the Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Maximov and Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage.

In the framework of the visit a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia H.E. Ivanov Mikhail and was conducted to discuss supply of fertilizers to Sri Lanka and deferred payment possibilities. EuroChem Chemical manufacturing company and PhosAgro fertilizer producer attended the matter.
