Meeting with the Minister of Higher Education and Science of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Falkov took place on October 11, 2022. The parties discussed signing of Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on Mutual Recognition of Education and Qualifications. The last agreement was signed in 1982. Both parties agreed to sign agreement before the end of the year.

In his welcome remarks, Minister H.E. Falkov mentioned that there are 827 Sri Lankan student studying in Russia in different fields including General medicine, IT, engineering, economics and linguistics etc. 120 of them study at the Federal Budget (free of charge).
In the meantime the number of scholarship for Sri Lanka is increased from 40 to 50 for 2023/2024 Academic Year.

During the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Denis Gribov both sides expressed interest in developing and signing MOU covering secondary technical education, vocational training, teaching Russian as foreign language in schools in Sri Lanka, advanced training for teachers of Russian in order to share best practices and experience, establish direct contact between educational institutions of Russia and Sri Lanka. The Deputy Minister Mr. Gribov introduced information on Russian e-school for SL children, who are willing to study Russian and to continue their study in Russia and the humanitarian project "RUSSIAN TEACHER ABROAD" launched and well-reputed in CIS and SCO countries.
