Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow is pleased to announce that in terms of the statistics pertaining to tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka in November 2022, the Russian Federation has become the number one tourist traffic source of Sri Lanka.
According to the tourism sector statistics sources of Sri Lanka, in the month of November 2022, tourist arrivals from the Russian Federation accounted for 13,820, which constituted 23% contribution to the total number of 59,759 tourist arrivals.
Among the numerous initiatives this Embassy has been carrying out in order to promote Sri Lanka tourism in the host country, resumption of Aeroflot direct flights, operation of Azur Air direct charter services to Sri Lanka with effect from the 02nd November 2022 from 4 cities in the Russian Federation and the establishment of banking cooperation between Sri Lankan and Russian banks, enabling the Russian tourists to make transactions in Sri Lanka seamlessly, could be deemed as major trigger points for this milestone.
In addition, this Embassy keeps maintaining sound and progressive terms with major Russian media, tour operators and tour operators' associations with a view to popularising Sri Lanka as one of the emerging tourism destinations for Russians by conducting constant promotional events and media briefings and, thus the latter have also extensively contributed to achieve the above outcomes.
