Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation in coordination with the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka, the office of the Additional Secretary (Medical Services), Ministry of Health, and the University of Peradeniya organized a visit of a training team from the Moscow Metropolitan Governance Yury Luzhkov University to Sri Lanka on 27 November – 03 December 2022.

The delegation of the Moscow Metropolitan Governance Yury Luzhkov University comprised of Mr. Vasily Fiveyskiy, Rector, Mr. Konstantin Tsaranov, Head of the Department of Educational Programmes of the University, and management of Moscow hospitals. The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate to Russian counterparts the principles and methods of the healthcare system in Sri Lanka, to show facilities of Sri Lankan medical institutions and exchange experience.
In the course of their one-week stay, the delegation visited a number of healthcare-related institutions, primarily the Ministry of Health, where the delegation held a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry and H. E. Levan S. Dzhagaryan, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka. The sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of medicine and sanitation.
The delegation also examined the Family Health Bureau and Epidemiology Unit, the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, National Institute of Health Sciences, Kaluthara, Immunology laboratory of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, 'Apeksha' Cancer Hospital, Maharagama, National Dengue Control Unit and Cancer Control Programme, Lady Ridgway Hospital, Colombo and other institutions.
The second part of the visit was dedicated to the University of Peradeniya, where the Mr. Vasily Fiveyskiy, Rector of the Metropolitan Governance University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya. The team examined the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dental Sciences, Teaching Hospital and paid visits to the regional Directors of Health Services.
Mr. Vasily Fiveyskiy in the course of his programme also held a meeting with Hon. Bernadine Rose Senanayake, Mayor of the City of Colombo, Dr. P.G.D. Pradeepa Serasinghe, Director General, Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor, University of Kelaniya and several other institutions.
The Embassy strongly believes that such short-term visits help building new links between Sri Lankan and Russian bodies and expresses its gratitude to Dr. Sunil De Alwis, Additional Secretary (Medical Services), Ministry of Health, and his team for their utmost support for making this project a success.
