On December 6 - 7, 2022, as part of the business program of the international exhibition "MedTravelExpo 2022", at the site of the scientific and practical conference "Russian Health Week", the largest medical and health tourism event in Russia - the Global Medical Tourism Summit, was held, organized by the Committee for the development of tourism of St. Petersburg and the Convention and Exhibition Bureau of St. Petersburg.

Three dozen of international experts from Russia, Sri Lanka, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the USA, China and other countries met to discuss the development of the industry and the opportunities that open up for the Russian Federation in the global market for medical and health tourism.
H.E. the Ambassador, prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, presented the potential of Sri Lanka from the point of view of medical tourism delivering a colorful and attractive presentation on Wellness and Ayurveda tourism of the country on the plenary session "Medical tourism as a driver for the recovery of the tourism industry" and inviting Russian tourists to discover the opportunities offered by the island.
