Gomel-Gampaha

Leading up to the visit of the representatives of the Gomel State Medical University (GSMU) to Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus organized an introductory meeting between the GSMU and the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM).

Since GWUIM is planning to establish a Medical Faculty, the University expressed keen interest to developing cooperation with one of the most prestigious Universities in Belarus. Prof. Ranjana Senevirathne, Vice Chancellor of the GWUIM was particularly interested in student exchange, staff mobility, participation in international conferences, conducting joint research programmes, as well as curriculum development, etc.
The GSMU, in its turn, expressed its desire for cooperation with the Sri Lankan counterparts in such spheres as student exchange, summer schools, staff mobility, etc. Dr. Igor Stoma, Rector of GSMU, noted that the Belarus University could use the Sri Lankan expertise in treating tropical diseases and infections.
In her address to the gathering, Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, noted that she visited the Gomel State Medical University on several occasions and was absolutely positive that the two Universities would be able to develop cooperation in a mutually beneficial way.
