Ambassador H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus paid her fourth visit to the Republic on January 11-14, 2023, and held a number of meeting with the Belarussian authorities. Mr. Chamila Jayarathna, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy, was also present at the meetings.

In the framework of her stay in Minsk, H.E. the Ambassador had a meeting with the Belorussian Minister of Education H.E. Andrei Ivanets, and discussed signing of MOU between the Ministries as well as prospects for expanding the collaboration to engineering specialties, IT and agriculture, introduction of joint research, academic exchange, summer schools etc.

H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage was received by the Deputy Foreign Minister H.E. Yuri Abrazevich. The two sides discussed the enhancement and reactivation of bilateral cooperation and spoke about the next sittings of Intergovernmental Commission and Political Consultation.
Having a large number of Sri Lankan students in the Universities of Belarus and in order to enhance tourism to Sri Lanka, Ambassador held discussion with Belavia Air company to facilitate direct flights to from Minsk to Sri Lanka at the high season.
During the visit, the official opening of the office of Hon. Consul of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Belarus took place.
The Round Table was conducted to discuss the Experience and Prospects for Bilateral Cooperation between Sri Lanka and Belarus. It gathered high-level officials representing different sectors including trade, tourism, education and healthcare. H.E. the Ambassador Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage spoke about tourism and trade potential development between the countries.
Round table session started with the traditional Sri Lankan dance performance by Sri Lankan students of Gomel State Medical University, and ceremony of lightning of the lamp by the esteemed guests.
