On 24 January 2023, at the request of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, the University Grants Commission (UGC), represented by its Chairman, Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, organized a meeting between the Rector of the Ural Federal University (UrFU) and representatives of Sri Lankan Universities.

In the course of the meeting Dr. Victor Koksharov, Rector of the UrFU, was able to discuss cooperation with Prof. Ranjana Wickrema Seneviratne, Vice-Chancellor of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, Mr. M. S. A. Riyad Rooly, Director/Office of International Affairs of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, Prof. Neelakshi Premawardhana, Director / International Affairs of the University of Kelaniya, Prof. W. D. G. Lanarolle, Director/ International Relations, University of Moratuwa and other staff members of the above institutions.
The sides made in-depth presentations of their institutions, exchanged their views, shared the plans for further collaboration and undertook to continue the efforts to negotiate on the texts of the Memorandums of Understanding to implement the practical stage of cooperation.
