The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation in collaboration with the Russian Association of International Cooperation and Russia-Sri Lanka Friendship Society organised a solemn event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Sri Lanka's independence.
The guests of this festive occasion gathered at Gostiny Dvor Pavilion in Moscow's downtown on February 3rd, 2023. Over 500 people attended the celebration.

H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage read the Independence Day message of H.E. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the President of Sri Lanka, to the audience. H.E. Zamir Nabievich Kabulov, Director of the 2nd Department of Asia, read the greeting message of H.E. Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov. The official part also included the greetings by Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Ali Sabry, Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Mr. Ilya Vasilyevich Shestakov, Co-Chairman of the Russian-Lankan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Head of Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries, cosmonaut Mr. Valery Tokarev, President of the Sri Lanka Friendship Society, and other distinguished guests.
The event concluded with performances by Sri Lankan students from Tver and Kursk Universities.
