Kur-Gampaha

Kursk State Medical University (KSMU), Russia, and Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM) held an online meeting on 14 February 2023 to discuss the prospects of cooperation.
The meeting had special importance, as apart from signing bilateral MoU between the two institutions Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the

Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Russia, initiated establishment of a Russia – Sri Lanka University Association for Medical and Allied Health Sciences, which would build a link between Russian and Sri Lankan medical institutions and assist them in conducting joint researches, seminars, conferences and commonly use resources.
Both sides supported the proposal and noted that establishment of the University Association would give yet another impetus to development of educational, research and medical links between the two countries.
In his address Prof. V. A. Lazarenko, Rector of the KSMU, expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Russia for her active participation in development of relations between the KSMU and Sri Lankan Universities, as well as Russia and Sri Lanka as a whole.
Prof. Ranjana W. Seneviratne, Vice-Chancellor of the GWUIM, informed that he highly values the opportunity to contribute to connection of Sri Lankan and Russian medical systems and expressed his hope that the KSMU would be able to facilitate to development of the syllabus for the Faculty of Medicine, which is planned to be opened in the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University.
The sides also discussed such formats of collaboration as student exchange programmes, summer schools, international conferences, staff mobility programmes, co-supervisory for research programmes, etc.
