With coordination of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia the Russian University of Transport (RUT (MIIT) held an introductory online meeting with the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) on 28 February 2023.

The sides, represented by Mr. Alexey Pinchukov, Head of Marketing and International Relations Division of RUT (MIIT) and Prof. Samantha Thelijjagoda, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & International) of SLIIT, as well as other staff members of the two Universities, made presentations of their programmes, facilities and interests and came up with proposals for cooperation. The special emphasis was put on such spheres of education as logistics, transport, computer security, engineering and computing, business school, etc.
The sides agreed to work on formalizing cooperation through signing a Memorandum of Understanding and establish cooperation by conducting the programmers of academic mobility, connecting scientists to produce joint publication, establishment of joint educational programmes, etc.
Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, noted that this collaboration is a golden opportunity for both sides to contribute to development of the suggested areas of knowledge and suggested the sides to work together for the benefit of both Sri Lanka and Russia.
