On 13 March 2023 Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, visited the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation to meet Hon. Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Health of Russia. The parties noted that the decades of bilateral cooperation were characterized by mutual understanding and the desire to strengthen cooperation.

In the course of the meeting, the high-level officials discussed in details strengthening ties between Sri Lankan and Russian State Medical Universities, providing training opportunities in scientific institutions within the framework of advanced training programs, organization of short-term study visits, establishment of the Russian-Sri Lankan Association of Medical and Allied Sciences, as well as cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals and digital technologies and other matters of mutual interest.
As a result of the meeting, the Russian and Sri Lankan sides reached an agreement to hold a series of consultations of specialists in the field of pharmaceuticals, education, digitalization, and also noted the importance of direct contacts between the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Sri Lanka.
