In the framework of the official visit of the Chuvash State Pedagogical University (ChSPU), Russia, to Sri Lanka, which took place from 12 to 19 March 2023, the ChSPU representatives visited the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine and held the ceremony of the Russian Cultural and Language Centre opening.
The opening ceremony of the Center for the Study of the Russian Language and Culture named after I. Y. Yakovlev was attended online by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage. The ChSPU University was represented by Prof. V. N. Ivanov, Acting Rector, Senior lecturer I. V. Kozhanov, Vice Rector for Scientific and Innovative Work, Mr. A. A. Kirillov, Head of the Department of for Scientific and Innovative Work.
The Sri Lankan side was represented by Prof. Ranjana W. Seneviratne, Vice Chancellor of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Asanka Pallewatta, Director of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi International Centre, and other staff of the GWUIM.
During a meeting that took place after the opening of the Center, the delegations of the two countries discussed the issues of teaching Russian language, creating network educational programs for students and students of general education schools of the Republic of Sri Lanka.
The visit of the ChSPU was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow together with the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, University of Vavuniya and South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
