On 15 March 2023, Prof. V. N. Ivanov, Acting Rector, Senior lecturer I. V. Kozhanov, Vice Rector for Scientific and Innovative Work of the Chuvash State Pedagogical University (ChSPU), Mr. A. A. Kirillov, Head of the Department of for Scientific and Innovative Work, who are on a working visit to the Republic of Sri Lanka, visited the University of Vavuniya.

The delegation was received by Dr. Y. Nanthagoban, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, acting Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Ravinthirakumaran Navaratnam, Director of the International Division, as well as other staff members of the University of Vavuniya. In the course of the visit, a ceremony of the grand opening of the I. Y. Yakovlev Center for the Study of Russian Language and Culture took place. Prof. V. N. Ivanov stressed the importance of educational, scientific, scientific and applied projects planned for implementation on the platform of the newly opened Center and expressed confidence in the successful development of not only economic, diplomatic, but also cultural and educational ties between the Chuvash Republic and the Republic of Sri Lanka.
During the visit, representatives of Yakovlev University also met with the academic staff of the University of Vavuniya and discussed the matters of expanding academic mobility programs for students and teachers of the two universities, as well as options for cooperation between scientists of the two countries. At the end of the meeting, a tour of the campus of the University of Vavuniya was organized for the delegation.
