On 15 March 2023, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus organized an introductory online meeting between the Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU), the University of Peradeniya, the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine and the University of Moratuwa.

Prof. Sergei Rubnikovich, Rector of the BSMU, appreciated the efforts of Prof. Janitha Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, to boost links between the Belarusian and Sri Lankan Universities. Professor warmly welcomed the Sri Lankan Universities represented by Dr. Keerthie Dissanayake, Management Committee, International Relations Office of the University of Peradeniya, Dr. Asanka Pallewatta, Director, International Center of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, Prof. Gamini Lanarolle, Director for International Relations of the University of Moratuwa and other representatives of the Universities.
In the course of the meeting, all four Universities made presentations and described their spheres of interest, putting special attention to student and staff exchange, establishment of elective courses, conducting educational and administrative consultations, etc.
The sides agreed to exchange specific proposals for collaboration and discuss the drafts of the Memorandums of Understanding for further development of the links and implementation of the future joint projects.
