On 26 April 2023, in the framework of the Forum of Rectors of Russian and Foreign Universities held within the programme of the XIII Eurasian Economic Youth Forum in the city of Ekaterinburg, Russia, the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ural State University of Economics (USUE).

Prof. Ranjana Seneviratne, Vice Chancellor of GWUIM, who joined the Signing Ceremony online together with Dr. Asanka Pallewatta, Director, International Center (GWIC), put the signature on the document together with Prof. Yakov Silin, Rector of USUE.
On behalf of the Sri Lankan University Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, who was present at the ceremony in the framework of participation in the Forum, presented a special plug of the GWUIM to the USUE Rector, and expressed hope that the signed MoU would make significant contribution to friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Russia.
In their speeches both Prof. Ranjana Seneviratne and Prof. Yakov Silin underlined the importance of international cooperation and networking to ensure development of educational systems in the countries. It is expected that the MoU would enable the parties to interact on academic and scientific development in the sphere of education for mutual benefit and improvement of the quality of education.
