On March 17th The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau have conducted a large-scale tourism promotional event in the frame of the official visit of the Chairman of the Bureau for participation in the international Travel Fair MITT 2023, which was held in Moscow from March 16 to 18, 2023.

In a palace of the Russian Empress Catherine, a press conference and reception was held for the Russian Mass Media and key tour operators.
The press conference was opened by H.E. the Ambassador, Professor Janitha A. Liyanage, hospitably inviting Russians to make an exciting journey to Sri Lanka.
Further Mr. Chalaka Gajabahu, Chairman of the Tourism Promotion Bureau of Sri Lanka has noted that Russia currently occupies a leading position in terms of the number of tourist flows to Sri Lanka, which this trend is expected to continue and in 2023-2024 the number of tourists from Russia is expected to increase, elaborating on the promotional activities planned to be undertaken in 2023.
It has been stressed that the Russia is recognized to be one of the most important strategic countries for Sri Lanka tourism. In this connection a promotional campaign is planned to be arranged in 2023.
The official part of the event was terminated with the Presentation, prepared by the Embassy, devoted to summer period in Sri Lanka aiming at sustaining the current level of the number of tourists for the summer period.
Among the guests of the event were the representatives of the National Investment Industrial Bank of Russia, who were given the floor to describe in details the mechanism of direct wires from the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka, People's bank avoiding correspondent banks.
The press conference was followed by the buffet arranged in the lower Golden Hall of the palace where all the participants could communicate in informal friendly environment.
