At the invitation of the Russian party, the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM) representatives visited the UI. Y. Yakovlev Chuvash State Pedagogical University (ChSPU), Russia, from 22 to 27 April 2023. Earlier this year the two Universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding and the Russian Cultural and Language Centre named after UI. Y. Yakovlev was opened on the platform of GWUIM.

The delegation, which included Prof. Ranjana Seneviratne, Vice Chancellor of the GWUIM, and Dr. Asanka Pallewatta, Director, International Center of the GWIC, held a series of meeting with Prof. V. N. Ivanov, Rector of the ChSPU, and administration of the University to discuss the work of the Russian Cultural and Language Centre in Sri Lanka, as well as the organizational and pedagogical conditions and technological support for educational activities in Russian in the education system of Sri Lanka.
The representatives of the GWUIM also participated in the International Scientific and Practical Conference Yakovlev Readings: Patriotism, Citizenship, Spirituality in the Aspect of Modern Sociocultural Processes, visited the Technopark of Universal Pedagogical Competences of the University and explored other facilities of the University.
In the course of the visit the Dr. Asanka Pallewatta, Director, made a speech at the Conference and held a series of master classes for the students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the ChSPU. The delegation also visited Alikov School under the University, where it was warmly welcomed by the staff and pupils of the school with a concert dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the Chuvash educator UI.
