On May 29, 2023 during her first official visit to Astana, H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage paid a courtesy call on the headquarters of CICA.
The Ambassador Prof. Janitha Liyanage was received by the Deputy Secretary General Ms. Chi Fang. Her Excellency expressed interest in enhancing cooperation in the spheres of tourism, green energy, trade and education.
Deputy Secretary General Ms. Chi Fang spoke about Sri Lanka's role as a co-coordinator of confidence building measures in the priority area of tourism. Ms. Chi Fang introduced such instruments as CICA Business Council, and its Business Forum as an effective platform for the business community of the 28 CICA Member-States to develop trade and economic relations and build partnerships.
The parties discussed the prospects to establish the CICA Partnership Network of Leading Universities. This initiative was presented by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Sixth CICA Summit. To recall, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Hon. Tharaka Balasuriya took part in the Summit last year.
Ambassador Janitha Liyanage and Ms. Chi Fang discussed the need to strengthen the interaction in different areas and participation of the Sri Lankan side in the upcoming events of CICA.
