On 22 June 2023 Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, made a visit to the Faculty of Chemistry of the Moscow State University, the oldest University of the country established in 1755 and famous for its fundamental research and high standards of teaching.

At the meeting with Academician Stephan Kalmykov, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head for Scientific Research of the Faculty of Chemistry of MSU, Prof. Sergey Karlov, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of MSU and other Faculty administrators, H. E. the Ambassador discussed potential collaboration between the University and its Sri Lankan counterparts, as well as the possibility of introduction of special radiochemistry related programmes in Sri Lanka, conducting joint, exchange programmes and guest lectures.
Both sides expressed their keen interest to developing cooperation in the spheres of project management in the field of decommissioning of nuclear facilities, radiopharmaceutical chemistry and spent nuclear fuel management. Apart from that, the Faculty of Chemistry proposed Sri Lankan specialists to join a summer school organized by the University, as well as invited students to apply for bachelor, master and PhD programmes.
The representatives of the Faculty also demonstrated to Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage the laboratories and other facilities of the Faculty, putting special emphasis on the Radiochemistry Department.
