Sri Lanka discusses cooperation opportunities with the Government of the Vologda region

In July 2023, the delegation headed by Hon. Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Minister of Industry - Minister of Plantation Industries of Sri Lanka and including H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Mr. Peter Ryzhkov - Chairman of the Board of Russia - Sri Lanka Friendship Society, and Mr. Vladimir Polozkov - Secretary General of the Russian Association for International Cooperation, Deputy President of Russia - Sri Lanka Friendship Society, visited Vologda region in order to study the trade, economic and industrial potential of the region.

The delegation was received by Mr. Vitaly Tushinov, Deputy Governor of the region in charge of trade, economic, industry, science and technology policy and foreign economic relations, and Mr. Mikhail Glazkov, Deputy Governor of the region in charge of agriculture, forestry and wildlife control.
During the meeting, the promising areas for cooperation were outlined and possibilities of joint work in trade and economic sphere, industrial sector, forestry and agro-industrial complex, education and tourism were discussed.
To recollect, an Agreement on establishment of twinning ties and cooperation between the Administration of the city of Vologda and the municipality of the Sri Lankan city of Galle was signed in June 2023. Establishment of twinning ties between the cities became an important social and political event that will contribute to the development of friendly ties with Sri Lanka, as well as strengthening business, cultural, educational and social ties between the two cities.
