In the framework of development of cooperation of Sri Lanka with the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba (RUDN University), its Institute of Environmental Engineering conducted an introductory online meeting with the Rajarata University on 26 September 2023.

In her opening remarks of the meeting Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, wished the two sides to establish strong communication links in the sphere of Environmental Engineering, which is a matter of utmost importance both to Sri Lanka and Russia. The meeting was also graced by Dr. Popkova Anna, Deputy Director for International Affairs Institute of Environmental Engineering, Dr. S. M. C. B. Karalliyadda, Director of the International Relations Unit of the Rajarata University and other officers of the two Universities.
The sides discovered that their fields of interest have much in common, in particular Climate Change, Environmental Biotechnologies, Remote Sensing and Digital Technologies for Soil Monitoring and Mapping, Resources conservation, etc. The two Universities decided to explore the possibility of establishing cooperation via organizing an online scientific seminar, discussion on joint master degree, exchange of study plans, organization of an online summer school and signing a Memorandum of Understanding.
