Ambassador Dr. Saman Weerasinghe called on Prof. Vladimir Filippov, Rector of the People’s Friendship University of Russia today, 20 January 2016.
The University, formerly known as People’s Friendship University named after Patrice Lumumba, is a pioneer educational institute in the USSR and Russia.
Many Sri Lankan students have graduated from the University since 1960s and at present 34 Sri Lankan students receive higher education in the University in fields such as medicine and engineering.
Ambassador Dr. Weerasinghe and Prof. Filippov discussed the possibility of further collaboration between the University and Sri Lanka including enrolment of more Sri Lankan students to the University. Prof. Filippov also indicated the willingness of the University to provide Russian language training for Sri Lankan professionals in the tourism sector as well as to provide Russian language teaching at Vocational Training Institutes of Sri Lanka.
