On 19 October 2023, Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, gave a lecture to Directors of Moscow schools on the platform of the Moscow Metropolitan Governance Yury Luzhkov University.

The event was organized at the invitation of Mr. Vasily Fiveysky, Rector of the University, in the framework of an additional training programme for the Directors of Moscow schools held by the Moscow Metropolitan Governance Yury Luzhkov University.
In the course of the lecture the Ambassador gave to the Russian colleagues an outline of the Educational System of Sri Lanka, shared her personal experience of work in the national sphere of education, as well as her vision of current educational system problems as a whole. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage compared the Sri Lankan and the Russian systems and noted many similarities between them. Further, the Ambassador described the steps undertaken by the Government of Sri Lanka to improve the quality of education in the country and underlined the importance of equal distribution of resources between all schools and students.
The audience of the lecture showed genuine interest to the Sri Lankan educational practice and used this opportunity to ask a number of questions on the school, vocational and university level education on the island.
Following the meeting, the Ambassador held a meeting with the Rector of the University and discussed further steps to boost cooperation in the spheres of education and healthcare.
